You can use a flash drive to transfer the files. But you need to do a
bit more than just copy them in place for them to work properly. ![]() Thanks. That OE backup sounds terrific and I'll download it. BUT... Can I back up the OE on my old computer running W98SE, copy it to a flash drive, then copy it onto a new computer running XP and restore? Should I delete the OE that's already there on the new one? Or, can I at least do that with the address file? Phil "Michael Santovec" wrote in message ... You can use a flash drive to transfer the files. You need to be careful about the identity id. Each identity gets a
uniquely generated code. It's part of some of the registry keys. The address book is also keyed to this. Each WAB file has multiple sections. There's a private section only visible to the currently logged on identity, and the shared contacts section visible to everyone. If before you copy the WAB on the old PC, you move all contacts to the shared contacts section, then that shouldn't be a problem on the new PC. For more on the address book, see: The Windows Address Book (WAB) http://www.insideoe.com/files/wab.htm You could also try this: Windows XP - FILE & SETTINGS TRANSFER WIZARD http://aumha.org/win5/a/fast.htm -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "Phil James" wrote in message ...
