Default Scanning outgoing emails in OE

Hi all
Have heard scanning my outgoing emails (OE) is an ineffective tool. If this
is true, how do I disable it?. My AV protection is Macfee. Thanks for any
helpful info.

Scanning of incoming and outgoing mail isn't necessary and can lead to
corruption of your message store (i.e., loss of messages). It provides no
additional protection and even Symantec says it's not necessary:

paste
Disabling Email Scanning does not leave you unprotected against viruses that
are distributed as email attachments. Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect scans
incoming files as they are saved to your hard drive, including email and
email attachments. Email Scanning is just another layer on top of this. To
make sure that Auto-Protect is providing the maximum protection, keep
Auto-Protect enabled and run LiveUpdate regularly to ensure that you have
the most recent virus definitions.

In older versions of McAfee, (I don't know if it has changed), Click on the
McAfee icon and open the Security Center. Go to VirusScan and a little with
hunting around, you should find the option to disable e-mail scanning. (One
shot, incoming and outgoing).

Should you have any concerns:

This is from Symantec, but applies to all anti-virus programs.

Is my computer still protected against viruses if I disable Email Scanning?

That said, I use, and recommend, AVG Free:

or:

When prompted, choose Custom Installation and *uncheck* e-mail scanning when
you see the option.

Norton, and McAfee, products are not Outlook Express friendly, and I don't
know of any OE-MVP that would recommend using them.
