I have most of the email I want to save divided within 8-9 folders I created
for that purpose. I know better than to save email in the default inbox. However, some of them are getting pretty big. I have read here about not letting folders get any bigger than about 100 kb, but I haven't been able to figure out how to check the sizes of my folders. Right click and properties does not include the size, only the number of emails. And my folders don't show in my explorer window. So where do I look to check the size of the folders so I can keep the info safe? I know, this is a pretty basic question, but it got me. LOL Thanks Pamela |

LOL Thanks Pamela Make sure you have hidden files and folders unhidden in Windows Explorer. Open OE. Got to Tools/Options/Maintenance/Message store button. Select location path in the message store and copy it. Close OE. Open My Computer and paste the location you just copied into the address field. Hit enter. Hover your mouse cursor above the .dbx files and you will see their size. Alias |

LOL Thanks Pamela Consider creating a new identity for archiving purposes. Fileidentitiesadd new identity. Import all you old mail into it. You don't have to set up an account in it. Switch back and forth between identities to read the old mail. Continue to use your current ID for all new mail. -- Kath Adams MS MVP - Windows (Outlook Express) |

Hello Pamela,
Thank you for posting. Thanks to all for the excellent suggestion. I also think you can know the size of the folders by checking the size of those .dbx files. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to let me know. If you right click on the folder in the folder list and go to Properties, it
will tell the location of the file and also its size. The cautions are to keep the folders under 100 Mbytes, not 100 Kbytes. And you can just add more folders if they get too big, but you should backup regardless. steve "Pamela G." wrote in message ...
