Default Outlook Express version error message

Hello,

When I open Outlook Express the screen comes up upon loading and says
Outlook Express 6.0 and everything is good. The problems arise when I go the
the microsoft website and download any new updates for Outlook Express
version 6.0.

Once I download a new update and try to install them I get an error message
that says I need to have version 6.0 to install this update.

So my question(s); Why when I start-up Outlook Express it says that my
version is 6.0 on my system, but I cannot install any updates for that
version from microsoft? How do I change the registry to recognize that I have
Outlook Express version 6.0 installed?

I am running Windows XP (SP2)

Thanks for all your help on resloving these issues.
Have a wonderful day.

What I do know is that XP comes with OE already built in.
I think that makes a difference, because when I tested my PC
to see if it was 'Vista ready', I got a message saying that I would
need to have OE 6 first. Perhaps XP uses a hybrid?

Default Outlook Express version error message

OE Help about: What versions of MSOE.DLL and INETCOMM.DLL are listed here?

The error message is basically telling you that you don't need the updates
you're trying to install (i.e., updates already installed have superseded
them, which is why they're called cumulative updates).

Best to rely on Windows Update or Automatic Updates for updates your machine
needs, instead of trying to pick & choose ones you think it needs, Carl.
