Default Importing messages from Desktop

I saved messages to my desktop and a CD-R and am now trying to import back
into my OE. I keep getting a message saying "not a valid Win32 application".
I have tried importing and and received some of my message but not the
individual files that contain around 50 to 100 messages. I appreciate any
help.

Did you:

Remove the Read Only attribute for the dbx files?

Include Folders.dbx when you saved them?

I did remove the read only attribute.
I am not sure what you mean by include Folders.dbx when I saved them.

The other possible issue is that I changed the format as to what to open
them with and I am not sure what to open them with.

From:
http://www.insideoe.com/backup/simple.htm

Note the last sentence in the first paragraph.

3. Backup your mail folders.

In OE, click Tools| Options| Maintenance| Store folder to see the path to
the folder currently being used for your message store. Open Windows
Explorer and navigate to the Store. Copy the Folders.dbx file and all mail
folder.dbx files to your backup media. It is not necessary to copy any
newsgroup.dbx file because OE will not import newsgroup messages, only
messages in mail folders. ***You must include Folders.dbx in your backup***
or you will be unable to import the mail folders!

To restore your mail folders, open OE and click File| Import| Messages| OE5
(or OE6 if OE5 is not listed)| Message store directory, then browse to the
folder containing your old messages. Do not copy the backup files into the
current OE message store or the import will fail. If you saved your backup
on a CD or a networked drive, you will need to copy the backup to your hard
disk and verify that none of the *.dbx files are marked as "read only", or
the import will fail.

OE uses dbx files, but will not open a dbx file if you click on one dbx
file.
The OE store folder contains a dbx file for every message folder in OE plus
folders.dbx, pop3uidl.dbx, and offline.dbx.
When OE displays the folder list, it uses folders.dbx to show the folders
used in that Identity.
If you open the Inbox folder in OE, OE uses inbox.dbx.
File, Open in OE opens a folder or a message.
It doesn't open a dbx file.

If you corrupt a dbx file by trying to open with another program, you could
lose all messages in that file.

The safest is to have no program associated with dbx files.

What folders did import and what do you mean by individual files?
