Win XP Pro SP2 and using OE6. Following a recent OE "corruption" and other
problems I re-installed my operating system. With OE I created a new identity which I used up until a few days ago (instead of the Main identity) when once again I had a problem with OE (possible corrupt registry - could not imbed pictures in text of message) and I have now chosen to use the Main identity (where I can now imbed pictures). After a HUGE clean out of messages (within my old identity, I then imported the messages (and folders specific to messages from various people) to my Main identity. My question is, can I now delete my old "secondary" identity along with all its messages, or do I need to delete all the messages only? Will this deletion of messages/secondary identity have any adverse effect on my current OE setup? |

If you have all the messages that you want then it is safe to delete the old
Identity. This will not affect the Identity that you are using. -- Ron Sommer "Learner" wrote in message ... Win XP Pro SP2 and using OE6. Will this deletion of messages/secondary identity have any adverse effect on my current OE setup? I never use the Main Identity. Whenever I set up a new installation of MSOE, before I configure email accounts, I create a new Identity, set it as the default Identity, then delete the Main Identity. You may be corrupting message stores, or your Identity. Don't store email in the default MSOE mailboxes: Inbox.dbx Outbox.dbx Sent Items.dbx Deleted Items.dbx Only keep a limited number of items in Drafts.dbx if you have to use it. Archival storage of email should be done in folders that you create off of the Local Folders tree. I don't have my own copy of Windows XP, so I haven't played with the MSOE which sets up there. They do something funky with folder compaction. You should check through past articles in this news group; there are several posts every month, going back at least 60 days, dealing with this very problem. -- Norman ~Oh Lord, why have you come ~To Konnyu, with the Lion and the Drum |

Thanks N Miller. I understand what you're saying and I can advise that
virtually all messages are in their separate folders under Local Folders and all is now working well. Just got to learn not to "hoard' messages in my Inbox. :-) "N.
