Default KB911567 (MS06-016) update and MSKB article KB918651

Hi,

I'm not sure, if anyone is aware of the newly released MSKB article
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918651/en-us yet, which deals with
the KB911567 issues.

In case, someone noticed the article already, I'm curious whether
the workaround mentioned in there for Windows XP SP2 ("hacking" the
registry) has been the resolution for the template/X-Unsent: 1 issue
after having KB911567 applied.

I tried it here and found that it does *NOT* work :-/

Monitoring the registry accesses with Regmon doesn't show any query
for the key mentioned in there either.

I would really like to have a confirmation whether it's working and in
case it does, under which circumstances. If it isn't working anyhow, I
would like to urge the guys and girls with a more or less direct line
to MS ('s wastepaper basket) to use that one and insit on a cleary-
fication of the article.

TIA,
Freudi

Hi Freudi:

That makes two of us for whom this "fix" does nothing. It does not allow
me to use templates to resend mail nor to apply the X-Unsent: 1 to a saved
eml file and resend it.

Are yes - did see this - the patch to fix the update that didn't patch the
fix for the update that didnt work ;-) ;-) or something like that.

No I have not tried it - I do not mess with the registry under any
circumstances. I hate to think what will happen to those who lost the
address book etc and cannot/don't want to, play with registry. What are
they supposed to do? I removed the first one and have been sitting on my
hands waiting the outcome, which according to your experience, does not look
too good. Very annoying.
I shall watch this space. I am sure somebody will have an answer soon.

I tried it here and found that it does *NOT* work :-/

No surprise there then

TIA,
Freudi

ACK - would you mind contacting the black hole at MS?

That's okay. In case it would have worked, I'ld offer a ZIP file containing
the REG "corrections" - once again.

Bye,
Freudi

Ooops, it's gone now. Jumpstart?

Anyway, thanks for removing an obviously wrong article - in any means,
Freudi

Hi Freudi:

I sent a note to Bryan Starbuck, Team Lead for the OE Dev team advising him
of problems with the article. He's investigating and that may be why it's
been pulled.

Best regards.
