I have an unusual problem - I am currently using Outlook Express 6.0 under
Windows XP (SP2 with all the latest patches) and what happens is that on some (note some) emails with embedded links (for example email updates from some fanfiction sites) turn suddently from normal emails with embedded link into email with attachments. The attachements when open turn into what should have been in the email message. This is an urgent problem as it drives me crazy when it happens to some but not all emails and can cause problems in accessing some work-related emails with embedded links). Please Help!!!!!!!!!! |

Hi David,
This may be normal behavior, but the delay is surprising. In OE Tools, Options, Read tab is read messages in Plain Text selected? Reading in Plain Text will convert HTML content into an attachment that can be opened in the browser or selected from the message View menu. -- Tim K. aka Kuay Tim MS-MVP - Outlook Express Lynnwood, WA * "David Brookes" wrote in message ... No - the 'Read all messages in plain text' is not turned on.

Hi David,
Sometimes "toggling" a setting will help. Do you get the same behavior if Read Messages in Plain Text is selected? It could be something peculiar to the fanfiction e-mails that I'm not familiar with or some other reason. Someone else will likely join in to help with the correct answer. -- Tim K. aka Kuay Tim MS-MVP - Outlook Express Lynnwood, WA * "David Brookes" wrote in message ... Hi David,
Is this a new problem -- when did it start? Is any 3rd-party filtering (spam/anti-virus) software in use? -- Tim K. aka Kuay Tim MS-MVP - Outlook Express Lynnwood, WA * "David Brookes" wrote in message ... Tried either way - no different. |

Nested messages (*.EML files) is a common problem when messages come
from AOL, WebTV or Netscape. Some mail programs, such as AOL, always do a Forward as Attachment. Netscape does this by default, but the sender can do a "Forward Quoted" instead to avoid the problem. Often the attachment includes "Content-Disposition: inline". Some mail programs honor this. Unfortunately OE doesn't. With the exception of images (which is controlled by Tools, Options, Read in OE4 or a registry setting in OE5), OE will not display attachments Inline. Instead you have to open each attachment. If a message has been forward 10 times you need to go down 10 levels of opening attachments. If they are simple text messages, a quick workaround is to look at the Message Source (Ctrl-F3). -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "David Brookes" wrote in message ... But the emails did not have attachments originally. They were just normal
emails with web links in them. And it hasn't happenned to all of them - should I try importing my email data into another email program? |

Your problem is a bit unusual and have not seen this before. There are many
things you can try. Look first at *anything* that touches your e-mail. A/V programs, anti-spam programs, etc. What is your OS? If this started after 4/11/06, see if you have the update KB911567 installed. If you do, see Point 14 at this link. It can effect other things than what is mentioned there. http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#14 Some other things to try: You may have a damaged identity. File | Identity | Add New Identity. Create a new one and test it. If all is well, you can import your messages from the old identity and delete it. How to Create and Use Identities in Outlook Express http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=209169 Also, in Tools | Accounts, remove the account and after a reboot, add the account back. -- Bruce Hagen MS MVP - Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "David Brookes" wrote in message ... Currently I am running Windows XP (SP2) - fully patched. Also the problem was
present prior to the 11/4/2006 so I don't think it is related to the update KB911567. Am currently running NIS 2005 Standard but am not using the the AntiSpam component (it is currently disabled and not intergrated with OE). I am using Mailwasher 2.5 but that is not linked into OE so there should not be a issue. Should there be an identity issue when it shows up on two different machine (I backup my OE data and other document files from my desktop to my notebook and have had the same problem)? |
