Default User name and password

Every time I try to send a message, a window pops up asking my user name and
password. I enter them correctly, and in fact I have NPM which enters them
for me. BUT, more than half the time, the window keeps popping back up,
which seems to indicate to me that either the user name or password are
incorrect. I have no confidence that Outlook Express 6.0 is working
correctly for me. WHAT CAN I DO TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM??

NPM? Something Norton? Drop it. Symantec software isn't very good any
more.
