Default Password

Every so often I cannot log into the dial-up connection because 'connect
automatically' has become unticked. However, my password has become much
longer and, when I tick 'connect automatically' and 'connect' it logs in
without a problem.

This is a matter of curiosity rather than a problem. If I were to add
characters to my password I would (rightly) be denied access. So why are
characters being added to the password and why are they being accepted?

Regards.

Default Password

I believe an update added a certain number of * to the field by default so
that the actual length is not given away if a short password. The less PW
detail (especially if short) anyone can tell the less chance they have of
guessing it..

I don't know for sure but this is what seems to have happened here.

As a security measure WinXP displays a false number of asterisks in the
Password field.
