Default Word error when printing Outlook form

Since implementing the Word template/bookmark way of printing Outlook forms,
we've been frequently getting the following error in Word:
"Word cannot save the file because it is already opened elsewhere
(C:\....\normal.dot)"
I know Word automatically saves the normal template when it closes so I
guess it's this event that's producing the message. Why should calling up
multiple instances of Word to print Outlook forms cause this problem?
