Default Missing contacts after Windows 7 clean install

I did a clean install of windows 7 and reinstalled Office 2007 (prior to the
install I copied my outlook pst file to an external drive). After
reinstalling office I opened Outlook and imported my outlook pst file and I
got everything back (emails, calendar events) but not my contacts. What have
I missed?

Why would you import the file?
Just open it.

Where are they missing from?

If you have Contacts in the Contacts folder but they are not accessible when
you click on the To button, check these settings:

Make sure the Contact folder is enabled as an email address book. Right
click the Contacts folder, choose Properties then Outlook Address Book. Is
the box to enable as email address book is checked?

If this is grayed out... you'll need to make a new profile as you can't add
the Outlook Address Book service due to a bug.

Import is bad, just open the old pst in the new profile.

Default Missing contacts after Windows 7 clean install

I have a similar problem after a Windows 7 clean install. I opened the .pst
file. The e-mail is there. The contacts folder contents show up under
contacts.

I have enabled the Contacts folder to be an Outlook address book but that
doesn't help. Outlook tells me that it cannot display the address book when
I try to open the address book.

Is there anything else I should try?

Did you import an old pst into a new profile or open the old pst in the new
profile? (Open old pst in new profile is the proper way.)

Default Missing contacts after Windows 7 clean install

I have sort of the same problem. I have a clean install of Windows 7 and
using Outlook 2007, but want to have a fresh Outlook file but need the
Contact list. I have the old *.pst file and that shows up OK, but I can't
seem to find my Contact list in that file. Help.
Thank you

Look in Contacts - you will probably see two Contacts - the top one the
empty default list and the second one the contact folder in the opened pst
file...

Gordon,
Thank you very much. I found the list in Contacts. Then what to do! I did a
rt-clk on the Contacts list and selected Properties and then checked "Show
this folder as an e-mail Address Book". Then there is. Thank you Gordon.
