Default confusion

Outlook 2002 SP3. Minor issue on an older computer running windows xp pro sp3, concerning contacts has resulted in much reading and major confusion on my part.

The minor issue is the drop down box when clicking "to" on send email has the contact folder and it's contacts listed properly. This name box also has another two other contact folders listed. One called "old contacts" and the other is "outlook address book". "outlook address book" is empty. How do I remove this from the drop down list?

"old contacts" must be a software upgrade anomoly. I'm sure it was the contact list from the previous version of Outlook which was upgraded many years ago. This is a real contact list of some kind as I was able to use that dropdown box which appears when you click the "To" button on send email, to actually add a contact to it. This new contact did not appear in the Outlook contact folder. Just in this "old contacts" folder which I will restate, appears nowhere inside of outlook and no where on the hard drive.

I realize some previous user created this. What's driving me nuts is that I can't track down the source of the "old contact" folder so I can delete it. it is not in the Outlook contact folder as a sub folder. It's also not in the hard drive folders under user name. I simply can't figure out where else to look for it.

I know you guru's know this stuff cold. A little help would be greatly appreciated.

Default confusion

"Outlook Address Book" is the name of the address book / container that
shows you your contact folder(s) as address books, so you can't remove it.
The other one must be pointing to another contact-type folder. Do you have
more than one of those in your message store / mailbox?

Default more than 1 contact list

"more than one of those in your message store / mailbox?"

Thanks for your reply, although I'm confused on what you mean by this. There is only one 'contacts' folder. No distribution lists and no sub folders are in this contact folder, hence my confusion on where to look next for the 'old contacts' appearing in the drop down list.

It's the Autocompletion cache which has no connection with your Contacts at
all.
