Default Outlook 2003 (IM) Tools, Options, Enable PNST, sub box is greyed?

I'm trying to implement Instant Messaging; however the MS instructions are
erroneous for my case. The box under the Enable Person Names Smart Tag
(Display Presence Status in the From Field) cannot be checked because it is
greyed out. What can I do?

Thanks.

I'm using MS Outlook 2003, running under MS Windows Vista Home Premiom. It's
my understanding that the Instant Messaging is a feature of MS Outlook 2003
(although perhaps in conjunction with another application, Windows
Messenger). It was in the Help section of this application that I found
instructions re. same. However, the instructions were erroneous.
Consequently, I do not understand your question. I'm not aware of having
windows messenger other than via Outlook 2003. How would I go about getting
the answer to your question? I would appreciate any help I can get.

BTW, I clicked "Notify Me of Replies", but I did not receive any
notification. How would I get that notification?

You need Windows messenger and it only works with certain versions. I know
it works with the live messenger client v 8.5.

Instant messaging in outlook puts a little icon on a persons name if they
are in your messenger contact list and you can see if they are online or
offline. When the sender or recipient is online, you'll see a little icon
and a dropdown menu, like the one he
