Default Follow-up Reminder Time Clearing

When I set a follow-up flag with a due date and clear the item by hitting
clear the item blanks on the flag to follow-up and clears the flag field.
But my custom contact display reminder time field does not clear - I presume
this is the follow-up date and time field. If you mark it complete, it
blanks and displays as blank on the contact custom list. If you mark clear -
it blanks, clears the flag, and continues to display on the custom list with
no apparent way to delete this date.
