Default Contacts - Cannot display Folder. The folder is full.

I have installed 2007 and under My Contacts I have to Folders.
1. Contacts
2. Contacts (backup)

If I click on Contacts I get the message I get the message "Cannot display
Folder. The folder is full. " So of course I cannot see any view of my
contacts

If I click Contracts (backup) I get an open folder with numerous contacts
(it would appear it is the contacts I had before installing from previous
versions.

When I creat a 'new' contact using my custom forms (open as they should) I
create the contact and save. The contact is saved in the address book I am
using, so I am able to search for a contact in the Mail section.

However all the recent new contacts DO NOT show in the Contracts (backup)
folder when I view the contacts.

How can I open and operate the CONTACTS
How can I include the new contacts to CONTRACTS (backup)

Default Contacts - Cannot display Folder. The folder is full.

What happens if you look at the Contacts section through the Folder List view
instead of clicking on Contacts in the Navigation Pane? What do you see as
far as contacts folders then?

Default Contacts - Cannot display Folder. The folder is full.

For the purpose of this response, assuming that you are referring to the
"default" contact folder which is having the issue. Since you can't
change/delete your default contacts folder - here is a way around it to
recover your contact info and have a single complete set of working
"default" folders.

#1 - Run ScanPst to correct any errors
#2 - If that fails to correct the problem (it's a crap shoot in terms of
whether it will or not - sometimes it does - sometimes it doesn't) - would
suggest doing the following:
a) create a new PST file, close Outlook, from Control Panel Mail
settings - make this new PST your default
b) Open Outlook and add/open the original PST file if not already
there
c) copy everything from the old folders to the equiv folders in
the new PST (inbox and whatever else you want to retail)

*** note - even though you get the "Cannot Display Folder" message - you can
still "copy/move" the contacts to another folder so don't be put off by the
message. Everything is not lost.

Karl

In list view only CONTACTS is displayed - CONTACTS (backup) is not shown - So
when I attempt to open CONTACTS I get the message 'cannot display folder.

Default Contacts - Cannot display Folder. The folder is full.

Thank you Karl

1. Scanpst.exe crashed 3 or 4 times half way through - so I gave that a miss
2. I followed your instructions and happy to report success - thank you.

Only thing I did different was after creating new PST file I only copied the
Contacts to the new folder as my other files are fairly large. Once copied
to the new PST file and working as it should, I copied it back to original
PST file with different name.

So all seems good from this end.

Question:
After completion I no longer require the new PST file and I closed it. I
would like to know if it is actually deleted or just saved somewhere in
Outlook. My files are getting pretty large and I hope it has gone. And yes I
do use archives (each year is archived) as my files get too full.

If you closed the unneeded .PST file by right-clicking its root folder and
selecting "Close" from the popup menu, then it is no longer "in" Outlook, but
it still exists on your hard drive.

Not sure I follow exactly what you've ended up with in copying things back
etc since if I understand it correctly, you still have corrupted contacts
folder if you made the old PST file you're "default" again (and actually the
PST file itself would be suspect for other possible issues - not a good sign
if ScanPST cannot even finish the process. When I made reference to it not
working - had in mind that the error message still came up but ScanPST
itself should have been able to go to completion). However, only thing
important is that you know and it works for you :-).

As for new PST, if you didn't change location defaults when creating it -
you should be able to find on your system at:
c:\Documents and Settings\YourUserLogonName\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook\ - (where "C:\" = boot drive)

Your new file will be named Outlook#.pst (where # starts at 1 depending on
how many new PSTs have been created - the original will be Outlook.pst) -
unless of course you assigned it another name. You should be able to
identify your new file very easily by name and timestamp. To verify which
PST you are actually using as your default - right-click on the root --
properties -- advanced and look at the file location/name.
