I have the same problem running a fresh version of outlook 2007, running on
Vista Business. The search is not working at all. the problem is that outlook says that the application is still indexing, while it does not not index nothing at all. This is a nasty bug, what a shame after many years and versions paid to microsoft. I begg microsoft to give us a fix for that problem. -- Programmeur néolithique. OKAY everyone. yes, I had the CONTACT SEARCH problem as well. Its strange
that nobody from Microsoft or MVP's don't know about this problem because i've searched and have seen alot about it. READY? Here is the FIX. In Outlook 2007, Click CONTACTS in the navigation pane. In the upper right corner of the Contacts pane should be a search box that says Search All Contact Items very light. To the right of that search box is a dropdown arrow. Click it and choose SEARCH OPTIONS. In the Search Options window, in the middle is the SEARCH section. UNCHECK the DISPLAY SEARCH RESULTS AS I TYPE WHEN POSSIBLE box. My search started working again after I did this. Even when I rechecked the box. THANK YOU, THANK YOU VERY MUCH ("Elvis") Don't forget to remember the millions that gave there lives and limbs for the freedoms most of us are unaware that we have. He has a laptop and is running in cache and because he takes his laptop home so it needs to be in cache so his emails are stored up to date when he turns it on at home. I suspect this is why its not searching his contacts properly. I should add that any new additions or changes to old contacts it will find, just nothing pre the change from 03 to 07. Any ideas on what to do? thanks |

which folder to search. also, can i make the address book search all folders by default ? or configure advanced search to produce only address book entries ? ![]() Hi Steve, to make it short: don't waste your time on the Outlook search. If you're serious on actually working with Outlook, and that goes along with searching within emails/the whole Outlook data on a reliable and moreover speedy basis, I'd recommend you looking for some third party search tool alternatives... Xobin and Lookeen are my suggestions here. The former if you like some more social (network) features added too your Outlook as well, the latter for real improvement in search speed... I tried both, both clearly proofed it's advantages over the Outlook search, now using 'Lookeen' (http://www.lookeen.net) ![]() Greets Boris -- BorisD http://forums.slipstick.com |

In Outlook 2007, go to Tools - Address Book.
From there, in the Address Book window, go to Tools - Options. In the first drop down, select "Outlook Address Book." You should be able to see your other address "lists" or contact folders in the drop down. In the lower control list, you should see your contact folders as well. You can specify the order in which you want Check Names to search for contacts. I tested this with an email where I started typing in someone's name. Three possible choices appeared during the auto-complete. Two of the choices existed in one contact in my main Contacts folder. The other email address appears in a contact that I have in an Imported Contacts contact folder. Hope this helps. The key was choosing "Outlook Address Book" instead of one of your folders in the options of the Address Book.
