Default Shared Contact Conflict Message

Today I opened a Contact in a shared contact file in a public folder. I
called the number which was disconnected. I went to a colleague's office who
I knew had the number and asked him to post it the shared contact record.
After returning to my office, after he'd made the change, I mistakenly hit
"Save and Close", which is my regular habit, rather than the Close button.

This caused a message to be broadcast internally from the "Public Folder
Store" that alarmed several coworkers in our virus-sensitive environment.

It seems to me that the message need only be sent to those involved in the
conflict so that they can resolve it. Does anyone know if there is a setting
that will make it operate this way, or know of another solution?

Thank you.

After furious head scratching, Sprinks asked:

I've deleted it so I can't tell you precisely, but it was marked as urgent,
had a diamond or triangle icon at the top left (where an envelope icon is
normally), and it warned that a write conflict had occurred--that two users
saved changes to the same contact.
