Is there a way I can send an email, using a distribution list, BUT have the
recipients only see their name and not the others? thanks.

You'll need to use a mail merge for that.

I realize this, but when I do that I don't want all the names to show in the
TO: line.

You don't understand what a mail merge is. A mail merge only puts one name
in the To: field.
Outlook uses Word for performing mail merge functions such as Form Letters,
mailing labels, envelopes, and fax or email merges. For an overview of these
functions take a look he

Why don't you just BCC them? If you blind copy it will appear that each
individual is the only recipient. Piece o' cake.

It's not necessarily that simple. How the recipient's mail program handles the Bcc is up to that program, not you. Best case is that you get what you describe. Worst case is that it's marked as spam. In between, the user sees a message with a blank To.

If you want more control, mail merge is the way to go.
