Default Outlook 2007 search does not work as expected for address book con

address book: contacts window

Looking for a contact, cannot find by name. works for microsoft. select all
fields, type in microsoft, no search results though I can SEE contacts with
@microsoft.com in their email.

So all fields, evidently does not include the email address itself, which is
dumb, and unexpected

Post too vague to comprehend.
Searches are conducted in Contacts Folders, not the address book view.

Lets make it less vague.

a) I want to send someone an email
b) I click the "new" icon
c) I click "to"
d) a dialog box of contacts appears, colums, Name, Display Name, E-mail
Address

In the contact properties, Name = Full name, there is also File as, and
Display as

Search has radio buttons Name and All Fields

If one clicks All Fields, I would assume that one would be able to search
all fields in the contact. But I can't

Correct!
Answer remains the same. Searches are conducted in Contact Folders, not the
address book view. By the time you reach the address book view, you must at
least know the name of the recipient to whom you want to send the message.
The address book view was never intended for search functions and has been
largely abandoned by most users. That is Microsoft's intent. All development
has gone into Contact Folders, not the nearly obsolete address book view.
