I've imported a series of address from a CSV file and mapped all the fields
correctly (I think) and i have 2 questions Q1 The problem I have is that in business card view the addresses don't display correctly. They seem to be ok if you open the contact but don't initially display how I want them (or like the others already in the contacts folder). To illustrate the problem I've attached an incorrect and correct view of how I want the address information to be displayed. Q2 The email address comes in ok but I want the display name to be "FirstName LastName (EmailAddress)" I can map a field to this ok but how do I get outlook to automatically display this without having to set it up in the CSV file. If I edit each individual contact and delete the display filed outlook automatically recreates it in the format I want. However I don't want to do this for each of the contacts as it would take ages. -- Regards Andy Andy Roberts Win XP, Office 2007 |

One of the reasons importing is such a poor way to create Contacts is that
your derived fields (e.g., "File As" and "Full Name") will not be created correctly. So if you use a view that sorts by one of those fields (and you are), they won't sort correctly. You'll have to correct each Contact manually, or write code to do it. -- Russ Valentine "Andy Roberts" wrote in message ... The other thing you should look into if you have to import from non-Outlook
data is using a third party product that will do a better job than Outlook: http://www.contactgenie.com/ -- Russ Valentine "Andy Roberts" wrote in message ... #1 - Address lines
What you've run across is the way the import wizard leaves "combined address lines" in the business card view. Not much you can do about it. We have come to discover that depending on "how" info is updated to the actual contact item - some of the info doesn't automatically get carried forward or gets carried forward incorrectly to some of the built-in views. The other curious thing about the second image showing the "incorrect" address display - it indicates that you have 4 street address lines - yet there are only 3 separate street address lines so a little puzzled as to what mapping was used for 4 street address lines. #2 - FileAs, EmailDisplayAs etc The Outlook import wizard does not adopt any settings for these fields and uses it's own defaults. There is nothing in the UI that allows you to over-ride wht is used by Outlook's import wizard. You may find ContactGenie QuickPort of interest (specifically v 1.0.11 - 2010/3/6 which coincidentally was updated today and addresses an issue specific to the Business Card view - email address) a) QuickPort handles up to 4 street address lines and these are displayed correctly in the Biz Card view b) Allows you to set the format for any of the derived fields (FileAs, Email Display, FullName ) from a number of format options at the time of import and export http://www.contactgenie.com/quickport_4_outlook.htm Karl -- __________________________________________________ __________ Karl Timmermans - The Claxton Group ContactGenie - QuickPort/DataPort/Exporter/Toolkit/Duplicate Contact Mgr "Contact import/export/data management tools for Outlook '2000/2010" http://www.contactgenie.com "Andy Roberts" wrote in message ...
