I don't see my messages (any messages) though Outlook successfully downloads
them with no errors. "Test account settings" also gives positive results.
Messages can be sent from Outlook and are received (I know this by going
directly to gmail). But I still see no messages in Outlook.

Is this new behaviour? Have you filtered your view? View Current View
Messages (is what you should see). Is there mail in your Unread Mail Folder?
Have you checked your Junk Mail folder?

Are both your Inbox and Sent Items folders empty?

I have the same problem in 2003. after configuring the outlook 2003 on
vista os, i am unable to see messages. messages are however being
downloaded as the outlook shows number of messages received in bottom
right corner. Any guidance will be most useful.

while setting up outlook 2003, i did have some issues with dats file
and had to create it.

thanks for your advise.
