Default System Restore---useless??

Hi, due to the Outlook connector forced update, my outlook will not recognize
my primary mail accound and many of the buttons and links do not work
anymore. I can't send/recieve or even look at my email accounts. They all
died with this update.
I tried system restore for 4 days, 1o days and a month back. I get a
message telling me it was not done and to choose another day. WhY? I
choose dates that are bolded...why won't it restore it?? What is the trick??
