Default OL2000 : msvcrt.dll crash/error?

Yesterday, I attempted to update a user's email program from Outlook Express
to Outlook 2000. His operating system is XP Pro, SP3. Once OL2000
installs, I open the program, begin the importing process, and it crashes.
It says that the error is in msvcrt.dll. There are several instances of
this file on the hard drive, including in some non-Microsoft folders.

What do I need to do? Re-register the file? Delete it altogether and let
OL2000 re-add it? I've done this numerous times in the same environment,
and had no issues.

The dll is an MS runtime library, which should have been updated by Win
updates.
Assuming outlook is configured, does the err occur if you export the OE mail
to outlook?

OL2000 seemed to import the network settings properly, and then bombed out
when it began to import contacts, email, etc.
