Default Outlook (Office XP) does not remember mail passwords
Does anyone know whether Outlook 2007 remembers mail passwords?

I am thinking of buying Outlook 2007 but not if it fails to remember
passwords!

You might try this fix:
http://support.microsoft.com/Default.aspx?id=290684

I hear it has worked for others.
It did not fix my problem.
I also saw a post where the same problem afflicts some folks with office
2007 and Vista.
Apparently, MS still needs to provide a better fix.
Ideally a service pack/qfe for outlook would handle the registry hacking
without user intervention.

Thank you Steve. The Microsoft link did not fix my problem either...but I am
using Outlook rather than Outlook Express. I guess that I shall delay my
purchase of Outlook 2007! Thanks againfor your help.

The following post helped fixed the problem for me:

I didn't follow it exactly.
What I did:
I used regedt32 to export the following key/subkeys to a file c:\usrprof.reg

HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Cur rentVersion\Explorer\User
Shell Folders

I modified the reg file to the "hkey_current_user" path and ran the .reg
file (I'll put the contents below).

I did this after all the following suggestions failed to fix my problem:

- the KB http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290684
- delete the user/create a new user
- delete user profile/create user profile
- uninstall ie7
- uninstall/reinstall outlook 2003

So in case this helps, you might be able to copy/paste this text into a reg
file and run it.

Hello Steve,

Thanks for your comprehensive reply...very much appreciated. At las tI have
met someone who has solved the problem!

I am inexperienced at tinkering with the registry files so will go slowly
and cautiously, making sure I have a recovery point installed. It may be
some time before I can fully implement your solution but I will persevere.
