I am in the midst of a major upgrade for a computer network. Most computers
worked correctly, but one computer/user can't send e-mail. I am using Outlook2003. I have a new IMAP e-mail account and have configured that account in Outlook. That account is the ONLY account configured in Outlook (ToolsAccounts shows only one account). The Outgoing server is configured correctly for that account. In my Mail folders, I have 2 items at the root level: Personal Folders and my IMAP account. The IMAP account shows a Sent Items folder. The Personal Folders also shows a Sent Items folders, and it shows an Outbox folder. I can locate the data files for each of these folders; they are different. It appears that when I send mail, the message is going to the Outbox in the Personal Folders section. Because there is no Outgoing Server configured for that box (or that account, because there is no account for Personal Folders, only for the IMAP account), no messages are sent. How do I direct messages to be sent from the IMAP account instead of going through the (non-existent?) Personal Folders account? Thanks for your help. |

The two sets of folders are normal for an IMAP account. One set, the IMAP
folder, is an .OST and the other set, Personal Folders, is a .PST. The .OST file is strictly a copy of your IMAP mailbox on the server; if you see a Sent Items folder here, it, too, is a representation of your sent items folder on the IMAP server and Outlook won't use it. Everything else is done in the .PST file. Items you send will go to this Sent Items folder, the sending process uses the .PST file's Outbox folder, ally our contacts will be stored in the .PST's Contacts folder, etc. In short, your IMAP account is configured for your Personal Folders and the IMAP "Account" you see at root level is only there to let you see your messages and other items stored on the IMAP server. Back to the problem. Do messages you send remain in the Personal Folders Outbox? If they wind up in the Personal Folders Sent Items folder, then they were, in fact, sent. Do you get any error messages? If so, post them please. Hal -- Hal Hostetler, CPBE -- Senior Engineer/MIS -- MS MVP-Print/Imaging -- WA7BGX http://www.kvoa.com -- "When News breaks, we fix it!"
