Some IMAP servers automatically expunge deleted messages.

Gmail, for example, removes them immediately, but it does place them
into it's own "Trash" folder.

My own server automatically purges messages with the deleted flag too,
but only after a few days.

It wouldn't hurt to double-check your view settings to make sure your
current view doesn't hide messages with the IMAP "deleted" flag, but if
this were the case, they'd probably disappear instantly without getting
a strikethrough for a few seconds.
