My desktop computer is running Outlook 2000. My previous laptop also had
Outlook 2K. I used to be able to drag messages, contacts etc to a shared network drive and then into the other copy of Outlook. My new laptop has Outlook 2003. I am able to drag Outlook 2K items to the laptop but cant go in the other direction (OL 2003 to OL 2000). I tried saving the items into a new PST file but OL2K wont read the 2003 PST either. I know that I can export contacts, but then I loose the groups. Any suggestions for a quick way to move (copy) data between OL2K3 and OL2K and then back in the other direction? Thanks |

Outlook 2003 introduced a new PST file format. You can create a legacy PST
file by using File New Outlook data file and picking the Outlook 97/2002 flavor. Items put in the legacy PST should make it easier to move things between the two installs. "Jack B. Try using file, save as... and don't choose the Unicode format option. When
you drag, it uses the Unicode format. -- Diane Poremsky [MVP - Outlook] Outlook Tips: http://www.outlook-tips.net/ Outlook & Exchange Solutions Center: http://www.slipstick.com Outlook Tips by email: EMO - a weekly newsletter about Outlook and Exchange: "Jack B. You can change the default for dragging and dropping from Unicode to ANSI
via; Tools- Options- tab Other- button Advanced Options- disable: Use Unicode Message Format when saving messages -- Robert Sparnaaij [MVP-Outlook] Coauthor, Configuring Microsoft Outlook 2003 http://www.howto-outlook.com/ Outlook FAQ, HowTo, Downloads, Add-Ins and more http://www.msoutlook.info/ Real World Questions, Real World Answers ----- "Jack B. That's AWESOME!
What are the negative ramifications of saving in ANSI? Thanks "Roady [MVP]" t wrote in message ... Any Unicode characters will get lost. Other than that, there won't be any
negative effects. Even dragging ANSI msg-files into a Unicode formatted pst-file works without issues. -- Robert Sparnaaij [MVP-Outlook] Coauthor, Configuring Microsoft Outlook 2003 http://www.howto-outlook.com/ Outlook FAQ, HowTo, Downloads, Add-Ins and more http://www.msoutlook.info/ Real World Questions, Real World Answers ----- "Jack B. If, however, you want to be able to drag single messages to a network share, in Outlook 2003, click ToolsOptionsOtherAdvanced Options and uncheck the box labeled "Use Unicode Message Format when saving messages". -- Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook] |
