utlook 2007 & 2003 encrypted email forwarding:




I have a question about forwarding encrypted emails.




Scenario #1 Outlook 2003


I have received an encrypted email from outside our exchange, from an
existing client not within our office.


We have completed the DIGITALLY SIGNED process and we can send Signed and
encrypted emails to each other just fine all is working.


NON-ISSUE -- once I receive the encrypted email with the little blue lock, I
open it then at that point (IN OUTLOOK 2003) I can then forward it to a
co-worker within our office and within our exchange environment perfectly.
Actually it seems as though once the email is open in outlook 2003 it
unencrypts it allowing me to send it anywhere to anyone even to an outside
email address.


Scenario #2 Outlook 2007


I have received an encrypted email from outside our exchange, from an
existing client not within our office.

open it then at that point (IN OUTLOOK 2007) I can not forward it to a

seems as though once the email is open in outlook 2007 it it stays encrypted,
unchanged and will not allow me to forward it to a co worker or outside email
address UNLESS I manually uncheck the blue lock in the top options pane when
the message is open.


The problem with this is that we get 100's of emails and we used to just
open, then forward to another email internally.


NOTE: This worked at one point in OUTLOOK 2007 for almost a year, then
something changed in the enviroment and we can no longer complete the above
action the way we can in OUTLOOK 2003.




I HOPE THIS MAKES SENSE SO BASICALLY WE WANT THE OUTLOOK 2007 TO KEEP
WORKING LIKE THE OUTLOOK 2003.


We want to get the encrypted email then open it and forward it to an
internal email address without having to uncheck the blue lock on each email
one at a time.


We used to also use a shortcut ctrl+s and this would open the email and
un-encrypt it but this seems to no longer work, I would assume that if we had
say 20 emails in a box and all were encrypted, is there not a way that we can
select all and "Unencrypt" all of them so then we can do what we want with
them?


Is there a global settings somewhere?

all outgoing emails (I figured I would add that cause someone will assume we
have that checked) ****

You are correct. Opening it unencrypts it. You can then forward that to
anyone in the world, be they internal or external, because the message is in
an unencrypted form. Keep in mind, however, that, by default, if you receive
an encrypted message and either reply or forward that message, Outlook will
match the status of signed or encrypted unless you purposely disable the
signing or encrypting. In other words, if you receive a message with icon
containing a lock or a ribbon and reply to or forward that message, Outlook
will enable those same attributes on the new message automatically and you'll
need to disable them before sending. That's how it works in our environment
where there are over 100,000 Outlook users.

Unfortunately, I don't use Outlook 2007 in an environment that includes

Outlook 2003 will automatically match the attributes on the message as well
or, at least that's how it works for everyone I know. It's no different from
Outlook 2007 in that regard.

that uses outlook 2007 was able to open the emails they were unencrypted and
then send them internally. Well I forgot one thing... she stated thatshe
would open the emails using a short cut cntrl+s and this would bring up a
crypto script, maybe this unencrypted or keeps it unencrypted so she can send
it as a normal email with out having to manually uncheck the blue lock or
ribbon.

But on that same note other users who have outlook 2003 just open the email
with the blue lock and then they can send it anywhere and it remains NON-
encrypted.

I hope I make sense.. What do you thnk?

Ctrl-S doesn't seem to do anything for me on Outlook 2003. I'll have to check
my OL 2007 at home.

Even if you forget the password for the encrypted PST file, you can
still decrypt it by using Advanced Outlook Repair. Advanced Outlook
Repair can decrypt all the encrypted data and convert it into a new
PST file that doesn't require a password. You can visit
