Default Desktop alerts not working after SP2

I had the alerts not working anymore after SP2.
I noticed that if I clear all new mails and exit from Outlook, at
restarting alerts are again on.
Is this normal ?
The not-working status begins again after some while ... reason
unknown.
There is some special setup to be performed ?
Am I doing some mistake ?
I work unders XP Pro, regularly updated.

Pls help
Manlio

Default Desktop alerts not working after SP2

Some have reported problems with the pre-sp2 CU - they needed to install a
second update to make it work. That second update should be part of SP2 tho.

One person told me if there is no new mail upon opening Outlook, the desktop
alert will display
any new mail AFTER that initial check of mail on startup. If there is new
mail downloaded when outlook initially starts, the alert doesn't display.
(Outlook also takes longer to close completely when the alerts aren't
working.)

Thanks for answering.
The SP2 installed is that described in the Article ID:953195.
I agree with referenced comments.
Do you think there is some turnaround I may apply ?
Do you think MS is aware of this problem and will take care of it ?
XP Pro Control Panel gives no possibility to unistall the SP2.
Thanks
Manlio

If MS didn't know anything about it before, they did as of this this
morning. At this point I don't know what will fix it, but yes, once they
identify the cause it will likely be fixed.

Does going offline, waiting a couple of min then taking outlook back online
get it kick started?

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=967688 is the patch that seemed to fix it
before - but this should be in the SP2 release.

Hi Diane,
first let me say : you're a sort of angel for us ... thanks for all
your work. I do the same type of job in a very very different area and
I may understand ...

Then..
If I exit from Outlook, wait (30% time more then ususal) to have a
real OFF status (looking at the trayicon disappearing) and if I HAVE
NO UNREAD EMAIL in the Outlook folders (not only inbox) in the 50% the
alerts start again .... but, be clear, not always. Sometime I have to
exit windows and boot again ( very bad thing!). Unfortunately the
working status lasts very short .. I mean a couple of hours. then
again. Of course I tryed to understand .. but failed !

The hotfix is included within the SP2, nevertheless I will try to
check it.
Thanks
Have a good time !
Manlio

No, I haven't anything more about it. Some users said that disabling the
"Outlook Change Notifier" add-in appears to have solved the Desktop Alerts
issue. This add-in is from Apple and used with their mobile device service.
