Unread mail is simply a filtered view of your inbox, change your View

It is a search folder; i.e., it shows the results of the search criteria for that folder. The actual items listed in the search folder are in some other folder. If the search folder is showing selected items from the Inbox folder then those items must be in the Inbox folder. That you don't see them in the Inbox folder means you have a view applied to that folder which will hide some items there. So check what view you have selected on the Inbox folder. |
