Default Why do I have split lines in email?

When I'm composing an email in OL2003 I frequently hit Enter (carriage
return) to start a new line. Later if I change my mind and want to join up
that line I hit the delete key after the character where I want the line to
join. Everything looks okay and I send the email. If someone then replies
my email has lines split where the original split was located. This can
mean seeing lines perhaps with only three words in it and the next line
continues the sentence.

Anyone seen this effect and how can I fix it

try hitting backspace when the=cursor is in front of the second line... but
it probably won't make a difference as the recipients account might break
them anyway.
