Default Outlook 2007 calendar item formats

In my calendar, some items are listed with a small white border on the left
hand side, and sometimes this border is striped. What do these borders
mean? I have tried creating items with the exact same info and they don't
have the white border, so I don't get what the difference is. Thanks.
