IMAP folder does not automatically expand?
 

Hi everyone, from Italy!
I have configured an IMAP email account using Outlook 2007.
This account is included in the automatic send/receive group, but new
messages sent to IMAP account are not shown since I manually expand the
collapsed account folder: it seems that IMAP mail accounts are not included
in the send/receive action when the folder is collapsed.
It is possible to expand automatically the IMAP account folder at Outlook
startup?
Is there any other solution to force Outlook in checking my IMAP account
even when folder is collapsed?

This is an incorrect conclusion. Whether or not the folders are expanded
has nothing to do with sending and receiving.

Make sure you choose the correct settings in the send/receive group. Tell
us how it's currently configured and we should be able to suggest
appropriate changes.

Maybe Outlook knows that I've got new mail, but this has not meaning to me,
if Outlook do not inform me of that event!
A (real) example: I put the Inbox folder of the IMAP account in the Favorite
Folders area, so that (I supposed) when a new mail is received it should
show that event, writing also how many unread emails are included in that
folder.
Now I've got some unread emails in the inbox folder of the IMAP account but,
since the IMAP folder is collapsed, that event is not highlighted.
Only when I expand the IMAP folder, both the IMAP Inbox folder just expanded
and the IMAP Inbox folder I put in the Favorite Folders area became in bold
showing the number of unread emails are contained.
These are the settings I have selected for IMAP account within the
send/receive settings area:
- Include the selected account in this group
- Send mail items
- Get folder unread count
- Receive mail items - option Download complete items, including
attachments.
Within the Folder Options I selected the following settings:
- Download complete item including attachments
- every folder of the Imap account is selected.
Is there something wrong in this settings?

IMAP folders just can't be configured to show as expanded when you open
Outlook. The first thing you should do when opening Outlook is expand the
folders, if that's what you want. They'll stay expanded as long as Outlook
remains open. You could create a rule that displays something when new
messages arrive in the Inbox of the IMAP account.

I shoud note anyway that Outlook management of IMAP account is not so linear
as POP3.

I don't think Outlook has ever handled IMAP accounts well.

A smart solution, based on an message, is creating
a rule that move every email sent to the IMAP account to the general inbox
folder.
It works!

I don't think that I should have to manually expand folders. I have more than
5 IMAP accounts and it takes a lot of time each day just to expand all
folders to see if there are new messages. It forces me to never close Outlook
or to expand each time I open Outlook.

I know I can't but Microsoft should make it possible in SP1 or in another
update. The MVPs can push Microsoft to do it, I can't.
