Default Search Folders Tricked by Using Email from Contacts

I did search around this group to see if this had been answered - some
were close - but I couldn't find the exact problem.

Anyway I have a search folder setup called "Rcvd from John Doe". I
setup the criteria with John Doe in the "From" specification and
myself in the "To" specification. When I populated the "From"
specification, I selected "John Doe" from my contacts.

My problem is that I now find that the search folder does not include
emails that were initiated by Mr. Doe.

Here's what appears to be happening: The John Doe in my Contacts has
the "File As" value set to "John Doe". When I received an email that
was initiated by Mr. Doe, the sender is shown as "Doe, John". Even
though both "John Doe" and "Doe, John" refer to an email address of
" I only see the "John Doe" emails because that's what I
put in the "From" when configuring the Search folder.

Obviously, the workaround is to enter ' in the From
specification for the Search Folder. Doesn't that seem lame though?
Shouldn't the search folder engine be smart enough to resolve this
sort of thing?

The from field uses the email display name on the message, not a contact's
information or the underlying email address. Note that unless you enter the
email address in the right field, the rule may not work as expected because
it's looking for words in the display name field, not the underlying email
address field.
