Default Exchange 2003/Outlook 2003/Outlook 2007 combination creates duplicate folders

Hello.

I have been running Outlook 2003 on a desktop PC connected to an
Exchange 2003 server . I just got a new laptop and installed Outlook
2007 on it. Lo and behold, I suddenly had a whole bunch of duplicate
default and special folders, each pair with precisely identical names.

The new folders, obviously created by Outlook 2007 when I installed it,
were the ones that the laptop's 2007 installation talked to, whereas
the old ones were in conversation with the desktop's Outlook 2003
installation. The result: the 2007 installation didn't see any of my
calendar entries, for example.

I managed to delete all the offending folders except the two Drafts
folders and it seems both installations are talking to the same folders
except that one is talking to Drafts and one is talking to Drafts1.
Obviously I want to use the same Drafts folder no matter where I log
in.

I don't like the way I "fixed" the installation either, because it
involved deleting the 2007 folders from the 2003 installation (Outlook
won't let you delete its special/default folders, but 2003 was
perfectly happy to delete the 2007 folders). Who knows what hell will
break loose when I'm doing some random thing, although my
experimentation at this point suggests everything is fine except the
Drafts business.

For (an attempt at) completeness, (1) I'm in cached Exchange mode and
(2) the Outlook 2003 installation on my desktop was logged in to the
Exchange server as I was installing the 2007 installation on my
laptop. Not sure whether (2) made a difference, but it's a possibility.

Any kind and brilliant soul who can help here will receive nothing but
good wishes for an auspicious future from me.

JV

No. I simply pointed it at my Exchange server.

My understanding is that when going to Outlook 2007 from earlier versions,
it is best to start with a new mail profile.
