I use the program K9 to filter out junk mail, which it does by adding
"[K9Spam]" to the subject. I then have a rule in Outlook 2003 which moves any downloaded email that matches to the Junk Mail folder. Outlook checks for new mail every 5 minutes. Because I access my email from several machines, I leave email on the server (a POP3 server) for two days before Outlook deletes it. This means quite a bit of junk accumulates there. This, however, hasn't been a problem until now. I've now started checking my email from my mobile phone. Of course, it now picks up all the (unfiltered) junk. What I want to do, then, is alter my rule in Outlook so that it deletes the junk from the server. However, I don't want to delete it from Outlook, just in case it's not actually junk. So, what I wanted to change my rule to say is basically this: If email subject contains "[K9Spam]" then - move a copy to Junk Email and delete it from server There doesn't seem to be an option to "delete it from server", but Google searches suggest that "permanently delete it" does the same job. However, adding this to my rule doesn't delete it from the server at all. Does anyone know how I can do what I want? deKay -- Lofi Gaming: www.lofi-gaming.org.uk [Gamertag: deKay 01] Gaming Diary: www.lofi-gaming.org.uk/diary/ My computer runs at 3.5MHz and I'm proud of that "It's like a cross between Katamari Damacy and that bit in Star Trek IV where they launch around the sun. Change the mail setting time to every 10 minutes to give the servers time to
reset. Your rule will not work because the {k-spam} is added after Outlook downloads the mail. Rules only work when it is being downloaded, not afterwards. No, [K9Spam] gets added before Outlook downloads the mail. The rule works so far as the email is copied to the Junk Mail folder, it's the deleting from the server that doesn't work. Waiting 10 minutes makes no difference. Nor does 30 minutes, 3 hours, or a whole day. deKay -- Lofi Gaming - http://lofi-gaming.org.uk Gaming Diary - http://lofi-gaming.org.uk/diary Blog - http://lofi-gaming.org.uk/blog My computer runs at 3.5MHz and I'm proud of that |
