A new user account was added to Windows XP Pro. The new user logged on.
The new user started Outlook. Outllook ased for email accout info. The
IMAP account info was added. Outlook froze with a message on the
screen, "configuring outlook accounts creating welcome message" The

Version of MS Office's Outlook? Note that this forum is not for Windows
Outlook Express.

Did you add a PST as well? Since an IMAP account can't be the default
delivery location, you must have a PST to supply that function. It is in
that PST's Inbox that Outlook will be trying to create the Welcome message.
If it doesn't exist, I can imaging there'd be problems.

I shut down the computer and restarted.

Outlook has created a pst for the IMAP account and I have been able to
open Outlook 2003 SP2. It is very slow.

Based upon other posts to the newsgroup, I unsubscribed the IMAP
folders and un-checked the box "display only subscribed folders" I also
increased the time between automatic Send /' Receive.

Outlook continues to lock up and must be closed from the Task Manager.
I believe the problems has something to do with IMAP IDLE.

Outlook 2003 works with an older version of Hamster Classic 2.0.0.1 as
the IMAP server. The older version does not support IDLE. The problem
is the older version has a known bug.

I therefore upgraded Hamster to 2.1.0.11. The new version supports IMAP
IDLE.

Outlook 2003 continually locks up. There are no problems with Outlook
2002 or any other email client including Thunderbird and Outlook
Express. The issue is limited to Outlook 2003.

Is there a way to disable of configure IMAP IDLE in Outlook? No such
control exists on the server side.

I don't know. I do know that some IMAP servers and Outlook don't get along
well.
