Someone Told me is a NO NO to import a .pst into a Exchange Mailbox?
Like it can cause problems importing a .pst into a person who is connected to an exchange server. Can you tell me what happens and why it's not a good idea? Any MS articles would be nice.. Aloha Russ SBITS.Biz (MCP SBS),
Don't know who told you that - I've done it lots of times with no difficulty. How would that person propose that a user who is going from a PST file to a new Exchange server get their existing items into their mailbox? -Ben- Ben M. Hi Ben,
Ya My First Post here! I'm an SBSer So I stick out there most of the time. microsoft.public.windows.server.SBS (Wonderful Product by the way, easy as Pie) That's what I was trying to understand also. I mean unless you import the whole mail store from another server, what can you do? (Have them POP3 Send everything? EW that would be UGLY) Maybe There's someone else who has heard this? I was kind of shocked when I heard it, because I've done it millions of times. (OK not millions, but you know what I mean.) I'm hoping someone else will post also. (Not that I don't believe you, but I have the same Opinion as yours.) I just want to make sure I'm not going to @#@#$ things up... Hey I have no problem changing my habits, I just want to do it the right way... Thanks Anyone Else have 2 cents? Importing an old .PST to a new .PST is the NO-NO part, doing so often causes
the Outlook profile to corrupt. What works for this instance and would work just fine with an Exchange Server mailbox is to open the .PST with Outlook then COPY (select, drag, & drop) the contents into the new .PST (or mailbox in this case). With Outlook 2003, creating a new profile creates a new, empty .PST and folks get into trouble when they import rather than copy the contents of their old .PST into the new one. I'll accept Ben's words that importing a .PST into an Exchange mailbox doesn't pose the same profile corruption problem. Exmerge is a completely different entity than Outlook's Import/Export
feature and it's Outlook's Import ability (or lack thereof) that causes problems.
