Default Newsgroups issues with Roadrunner

I am unable to connect to Newsgroups on my ISP (Roadrunner) through any
of my preferred clients- XNews, Free Agent etc. I get a host error when
trying to access the news server. The only program that works is
Outlook Express, which is really poor for downloading binaries.

When I asked RR tech support why this was happening they said they only
support Outlook for newsgroup service.

Is there any way I can fix this, or at least make it easier to get
binaries via Outlook Express? Thanks to all who respond.
