Sigh. As has been pointed out numerious times, things can change in a hearbeat and the AVG can begin to cause problems. Especially since the AV updates itself continuously. Sigh. Updates definitions. Changes in what it scans for, perhaps. I wouldn't expect it to change how it logs on to the server, retrieves messages. There's only one way to find out. Uninstall AVG (you're using an outdated version, BTW. It's at 9, now). Reboot, and custom reinstall WITHOUT the email module. I downloaded v9 weeks ago, was waiting to see what problems others might have. You're already protected with the resident scanner. The email scanning is marketing hype. AVG 9 is installed, w/o Email scan. Same message retrieve error persists. No difference. P "Law Without Equity Is No Law At All. It Is A Form Of Jungle Rule." |

... POP3: 14:16:50 [tx] RETR 1 POP3: 14:16:53 [rx] -ERR [SYS/TEMP] Server network problem. Please try again after sometime. POP3: 14:16:53 [db] Connection to '' closed. POP3: 14:16:53 [db] ERROR: "Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity.", hr=2148322319 Evidently, it logs me on, finds 25 messages waiting, then draws the error when it tries to retrieve the 1st message. Yes, this is exactly what the log is telling you. I make the -ERR [SYS/TEMP] as a server error. Do you concur? I do. The "[rx]" designation is for the messages that are coming in from the server. If this were happening to me, I'd log into the SBC Yahoo mailbox via a web browse and move the first message in the Inbox to another folder (create one if you don't have one handy), then try Outlook again to see if the problem is the message in the Inbox. While you're there, you might want to check the "spam" folder for accumulated messages. -- Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook] |

I've been monitoring it. Normally I get 4-8 spam msgs per day. Since the problem began, the spam folder shows nothing new. The most recent spam date is Wed, 4/28/10. I figger something like 20-60 spam msgs failed to make it to the spam folder. Can you make anything of that? I'm pert near clueless. Thx, P "Law Without Equity Is No Law At All. What I would do in this case is to move everything out of the server-side Inbox and see if Outlook can complete a send/receive. If not, I'd try a new mail profile. You say you're using Outlook 2000. If it's in Internet Mail Only mode, that's a problem because it's not easy to create a new mail profile. You have to mess with the registry. I always found it easier to convert to Corporate/Workgroup mode because then the Mail applet in Control Panel would allow me to create a new profile without using regedit.. HelpAbout will tell you wich you're using. I've been monitoring it. Normally I get 4-8 spam msgs per day. Since the problem began, the spam folder shows nothing new. I just mentioned it because POP doesn't ever check that folder and if you use a mail client, there's little reason to ever log into the server via web. Server-side spam folders can get very full. -- Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook] |

I finally got a competent ATT support-critter to elevate the problem
to Yahoo server support (yes, it actually exists) where a corrupted mailbox was "fixed". Much thanks for help with this.
