I'm currently using 32 bit Win 7 and Outlook 2007.
To take advantage of the ability to use more DRAM I want to convert to the 64 bit Win 7 version. I installed 64 bit Win 7. For the moment I cannot locate my OL2007 disks so I installed OL2003 as a temporary stop-gap. I copied the pst file from 32 bit Win 7/OL2007 into the proper folder in the new Win 7 64 bit/OL2003 installation. From within Outlook I go to File Open Outlook data file and when I select the pst file from the OL2007 system I get the message that the data file is not an Outlook file. Is there some way to do what I'm trying to do? Have I done something wrong? Any help is appreciated. |

Files are perfectly compatible.
As we point out daily here, you would never copy the PST file into the default folder. Copy it somewhere else, then open it in a new Outlook profile. If you still can't open it, then you had better provide the steps you used to copy and transfer this file so we can figure out how you corrupted it. -- Russ Valentine "D.Duck" wrote in message ... Since Outlook creates a PST file called Outlook.pst in the default location
every time you install it, there is a good chance you'll overwrite that file when you copy another to the same location. -- Russ Valentine "D.Duck" wrote in message ... Thanks for the tip. I will try as you suggest and report back. I have

It doesn't. You posted no information. Had you transferred data correctly,
everything would have been fine. -- Russ Valentine "Andrew Hamilton" wrote in message ... On Sun, 4 Apr 2010 22:41:00 -0400, "Russ Valentine" wrote: Files are perfectly compatible. Mostly. Once I got my new machine running with Office 2003, I discovered that
Outlook Rules didn't seem to work right. I'm sorry that I don't remember all the details. Also, almost every single time I ran a SCANPST, I got errors. Without knowing more details, its hard to say what was wrong with the rules, but if you moved the pst from the old machine, the rules need re-pointed to the folders on the new machine to work. Almost every time anyone runs scanpst, they will get errors, even on a brand new pst. It's not something that should be done just for kicks and grins. Outlook 2007 does add new properties to the pst but Outlook 2003 will ignore these. -- Diane Poremsky [MVP - Outlook] Outlook Tips: http://www.outlook-tips.net/ Outlook & Exchange Solutions Center: http://www.slipstick.com/ Outlook Tips by email: EMO - a weekly newsletter about Outlook and Exchange: Do you sync your mailbox with a smartphone or pda? http://forums.slipstick.com/showthread.php?t=39473 "Andrew Hamilton" wrote in message ... Once I run scanpst, Outlook again "remembers" these passwords. -AH |
