Hmmm. OE /should/ download them with a S/R. If you click on the Eternal
September news server in the folder tree, what is under the Settings
button. I use Don't Sync.

Hmm, I had New Messages Only. But only after I had the ng's fully
downloaded and deleted what I didn't want.

Prior to my July reformat (and this new HD last Friday), it always
downloaded the new posts. I am baffled.

Thanks for the MS link. I downloaded this one and my old haunt (WinME)....I
will see if those will download with that server.

OOPS....I went into the main news server folder (one at the top) and
clicked on it. On the left it said "Synchrone Accounts"......so decided
to click on that to see what it did. Well...it downloaded each news
group's new messages. Is that how it is done these days?? It still
doesn't download them when hitting Send/Receive.

Sigh....

Hi Puss....see inline....

Hi, Heather. In Tools | Accounts | News | Properties (for Eternal
September) | General Tab, is "Include this account......" checked?

CHECKED

I would also suggest unchecking: Get XXX Headers at a time in Tools |
Options | Read. You /may/ need to reset any specific group.

UNCHECKED THAT

While in a newsgroup: View | Current View. Make sure Show All Messages
and Group Messages By Conversation are checked.

ALWAYS HAVE IT SET TO HIDE READ MESSAGE AND GROUP MESSAGES BY
CONVERSATION IS CHECKED

Right click on the newsgroup in the Folder Tree | Properties | Local
File | Reset. Switch to another folder and then back and all available
messages will be downloaded again.

DID THAT, BUT NOT SURE WHY (g)

Or go to Tools | Options | Maintenance | Clean Up Now and choose the
group, or server at the top and then Reset.

DID THAT TOO.

Sorry about that.....I hate using block caps, but it was just simply
easier than html. I do have the MS groups under the E.Sept. news
server.....perhaps I will put them back under Microsoft. Can you give
me the link to click on to get to that?? My memory went south a week
ago, lol.

Hugs.....Heather (and I do count on you and the old Pooh Bear....and
Little Stevie Wonder....and where in heck is Majik these days??) See
how little problems I have with OE??

Hi All......

Seeing as no one has answered my question on Eternal-September, could
you help me out.

I have reformatted and can't seem to get the news groups to download
with the mail when I hit send/receive. I have gone over the settings
and I do get all of the posts, but have to do it manually.

Some *nimble**** suggested I synchronize (in a patronizing
tone......grrr). It is all set up as before, but as PA knows, I have
have had numerous problems since July. I now have a new hard
drive.....8-((

But on the bright side, the old HD is on here as a slave and I copied
a lot of stuff over. It is updating a 4 year old XP SP3 that is
tedious. (G)

Why? Maybe with F5 or Enter but AFAIK Ctrl-M just does Mail servers.
Probably what she wants is Ctrl-Shift-M (Synchronize All.)

If you click on the Eternal September news server in the folder tree,
what is under the Settings button.

I use Don't Sync.

Then Ctrl-Shift-M wouldn't do anything more for you than Ctrl-M would.

Look at that menu: Send/Receive (Ctrl-M). Is there any mention
of a news server there? The only way that I could conceive of a news
server being listed there is if someone had checked
Include this account when checking for new messages
(via Tools, Accounts, News, Properties)
for one. Then the most that I would have expected that to ever do
would be to issue a LIST request then to get some new estimates
of the number of messages available. Exceptionally that option
might have been enhanced to actually issue group requests for
each subscribed newsgroup hosted by that server (e.g. in order
to both reduce the overhead of a LIST output and probably
in general provide more accurate estimates) but I would definitely
never expect that it would go so far to actually do a full refresh
of new message headers for each. Even if, as a designer
I had been considering adding that much hidden functionality,
I would have only provided the equivalent of a Synchronize Account
per checked account at most. To provide anything else, especially
a function which is not available in any other way, IMO would be absurd.
It would be almost as if they were programming a loop of F5 commands
for each subscribed newsgroup independent of the presentation
and their normal context. shudder/

Do you have that option checkmarked in your news account? ; )

YEP!! Same old, same old. Even wrote all of the stuff down this time
rather than rely on looking it up somewhere. And it does NOT show up in
S/R. Used to a long time ago. Perhaps it has been missing for a while.
Hey, I am not 30 yrs old anymore....LOL.
