Default Outlook Express 6 e-mail messages are missing from the Inbox folde / OT / registry cleaners

I am taking your advice, and will pass it on to my son (also PC Tools
Registry Mechanic).

But what about all those loose ends and broken shortcut links? My idea is
that they arise because I have created my own directory structure in a new
partition and some applications throw up these 'missing link' msgs, but that
could be just layman's drivel.

They don't seem to reduce in number by themselves, i.e. XP doesn't seem to
deal with them (as suggested elsewhere).

I would not use a Registry Cleaner. Few in this newsgroup do!

Gerry, thx very much. I have uninstalled Uniblu Registry Booster
(trial version).

Before this thread I ran a 'clean-up'; only 15 items were dealt with
in this trial version.

Most of the items still shown we

-Missing or invalid path
- Empty key
- Missing typelib (whatever thay means)
- Invalid shortcut

Most of the items shown in PC Tools Registry Mechanic are also
missing links of sorts ("highlighted value is missing or invalid")
mostly in the Temp Files/Shortcuts section and are classified as low
priority. And, as I said, far fewer errors are thrown up by
Registry Mechanic. I got it off a PC Magazine CD.

At first I looked at the items listed for deletion and, as they looked
harmless (to my layman's eyes) I let them be deleted.

Curiously there is always one item not removed.

Reg Mechanic automatically sets a restore point when 'repairing'. It
also has a Restore Registry backup facility which is stored, so one
can restore quite old 'repairs'. Thus it seems quite safe.

I did not study the Uniblue product to this extent before
uninstalling.
Thanks again.

Nearly all serious contributors to these newsgroups discourage users
seeking help from using Registry Cleaners.

Uniblue products whether called a Booster or an Optimiser do not help
system performance. The better way is to ensure your system is free
of error and malware and to manage your programmes in way that does
not unnecessarily waste resources.

Hope this helps.

PS. The Uniblu Registry Booster which I just tested says it is a
Microsoft
Gold Certified Partner.

This is no recommendation to use it, presumably?

It produced maybe 10 times more errors than PC Tools Registry
Mechanic. Any comments welcome.

I realise this is not the place (neither thread nor group) for this
discussion but since you linked to this useful forum I thought I
would ask.
Maybe there is a quick answer.

Many thanks.

Incredible advice. I have been running PC Tools Registry Mechanic
weekly,
thinking that by removing broken links and the like I am doing the
registry (and myself) a favour.

Apparently not.

Looks like I should leave well alone!

Ugh. If you think your Registry needs to be "cleaned" or
"repaired," read http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?t=28099 and draw
your own conclusions.
