I noted recently that I can't open a jpg attachment to an email recieved in
oe. It seems to coinced with installing ie8, but can't see the connection. When I click on the attachment nothing happens-same thing is I right click and then click open in the box. Any experience or thoughts on this? Thanks. |

Make certain that Outlook Express (OE) is selected as the default Mail
Client in these 3 locations: 1. Start | Settings | Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs | Set Program Access and Defaults; 2. IE Tools | Internet Options | Programs | Email; and 3. OE Tools | Options | General | Default Messaging Programs. What anti-virus application or security suite is installed, is your subscription current, and is it supported in IE8? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall (if any)? Were any of these applications running in the background when you installed IE8? Has a Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on this machine (e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought it)? -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-IE, Mail, Security, Windows Client - since 2002 https://mvp.support.microsoft.com/pr...A-D04AAA41556E Jim wrote: I noted recently that I can't open a jpg attachment to an email recieved in oe. Any experience or thoughts on this? Thanks. The control panel seemed to do the trick-it was set to custom-don't know how it got there. I am using Zone Alarm security suite which is up to date. It probably was running when I installed OE8. No other security package has been on this computer. Many thanks. |

I doubt you'd have had this problem if you'd completely disabled ZAISS (including the firewall) and then enabled the Windows Firewall before installing IE8, Jim. -- ~PA Bear |

In the future I will remember to shutdown the ZA. Jim |
