Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! OE may not be compatible with your server. Ask the operator. E.g. what you are seeing could be as a result of OE not issuing a QUIT command and then later coming back assuming that the first connection was terminated. If there was no QUIT the server side might be holding on to the existing session longer than normal (e.g. not timing it out before you retry.) Then if the server also has a rule that the maximum number of connections per account is 1 this error could just be its way of expressing that fact. Etc. Good luck Robert Aldwinckle --- |

Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer
of protection that eats up CPUs, slows down sending and receiving, and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs, account setting changes and has even been responsible for lose of messages. Your up-to-date A/V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more, see: http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3 Note that for some AV programs, it may be necessary to uninstall the program and reinstall in Custom Mode and uncheck e-mail scanning when the option arises. How to troubleshoot error messages that you receive when try to send and receive e-mail in Outlook and in Outlook Express: http://support.microsoft.com/default...14&Product=oex -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express Imperial Beach, CA "wheezer63" wrote in message ... Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Try disabling the e-mail scan feature in your anti-virus software. Some anti-virus programs inspect the e-mail traffic on-the-fly so as the e-mail client is sending the e-mail then it gets only delayed a bit before the anti-virus' proxy sends it onto the SMTP mail host. This delay can cause timeouts in either direction for e-mail (inbound or outbound), and this delay will generate e-mail problems. Some anti-virus software still passes the e-mail traffic through its transparent proxy even when e-mail scanning is disabled, and their proxy could still be causing a problem. In that case, you have to uninstall and do a *custom* install where you do NOT include their e-mail scanner component. If their proxy goes dead, unresponsive, or causes excessive delay, you can continue to have problems with e-mail even with e-mail scanning disabled. Grisoft's and CA's anti-virus products are like this. Some anti-virus software actually looks like an SMTP mail host to your e-mail client; that is, their e-mail scanner actually accepts your e-mail from your client, goes inspecting the content of that e-mail, and then it acts like the e-mail client to pass it onto the real SMTP mail host. The idea is for the anti-virus proxy to look like the client to eliminate the problems with timeouts due to delayed delivery of e-mail traffic. McAfee is like this. However, as I recall, you don't need to uninstall and do a custom install to get McAfee's e-mail scanner out of the way. If you have any other software that interrogates your e-mail traffic, like anti-malware software, then disable them from inspecting your e-mail traffic. You leave enabled their on-access scanner to detect a pest when a file gets created, like when you attempt to save an attachment in an e-mail. |

All the more reason to ask the operators then. *They* might have done something. If nobody tells them they won't know they have to look for a reason for it and undo whatever it is that changed. (E.g. a new version of their software which reinstalled old undesirable default settings or new unusable ones. Etc. BTW since you are excluding the information about what the actual server that you do use is, you also exclude any help that other users of the same server may be able to give you.
