Default How to move email folders to a flash drive

Is there a way to move specific email folders (not all of them) from Outlook
Express to an external drive -- without having to move each individual
message one at a time? If so, I'd appreciate having guidance on how this can
be accomplished.

I tried to research this question in several discussion groups, but I
couldn't find specifics that would fully guide me through a step-by-step
process.

I found a way to move a .dbx email file to the desktop, but then couldn't
open the file with Internet Explorer or Outlook Express.

I never could find a way to move the .dbx email folders to anyplace other
than the desktop.

My goal is to move specific email folders from Outlook Express to a flash
drive. Guidance on how to do this will be greatly appreciated.

The question should be how to move the dbx file to OE.

Copy a specific dbx file to the flash drive.
On another computer, create a new folder in OE. Name it 'New".
Open the New folder.
Close OE.
Rename the dbx file on the flash drive, New.dbx .
Copy and Paste New.dbx from the flash drive to the OE Store Folder.
Answer yes to overwrite the OE Store Folder New.dbx with the flash drive
New.dbx.

Move several folders by creating several folders, opening each and closing
OE.
If the dbx file is a user created file, then you can create a folder with
the same name as the dbx file on the flash drive.

And will you then want OE (on the same machine or another machine) to be
able to access and open messages in that folder?

Thanks for your response. Yes, I'd like to be able to move OE folders to a
flash drive and want my computer or another one to be able to access the
folders and read the messages in them.

If you want to be able to read messages directly from the flash drive,
you need to convert them to EML files, one per message.

If you use the DBX files, you have to restore them to a working OE in
order to read them.
How to import a single mail folder (*.dbx)
http://www.insideoe.com/faqs/how.htm#importdbx
For an alternate description, see the last paragraph he
http://www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx

You can use Drag-and-Drop to save multiple e-mail messages to EML files
at a time. A saved EML file will open in an Outlook Express message
reading windows, properly formatted and with attachments accessible.

- Open the Windows File Explorer to the folder (directory) that you
want to save the messages to. For minimal confusion, the folder should
be empty or only used for saving mail messages.
- In Outlook Express highlight the desired messages (Ctrl-Click or
Shift-Click)
- While holding down the Left mouse button, drag the messages to the
Explorer window. If the Explorer window is not visible, drag to the
Taskbar button for Explorer, keep holding the left mouse button down
until Explorer moves to the front, then complete the drag to the
Explorer window and then release the Left mouse button.
- Complication: Messages are saved as *.EML files where the first part
of the file name is the message's subject. If you save multiple
messages in one drag-and drop operation, OE will automatically number
the subsequent messages with identical subject to make the name unique.
But if you later save additional messages with the same subject to the
same Windows folder it will start the numbering process over again and
you will get a "Confirm File Replace" dialog for the duplicate names.

- As an alternative to Drag-and-Drop you can use a program to extract
the contents of an mail folder file to individual *.EML files. These
programs automatically generate unique names for the *.EML files

What Michael said.

See http://www.insideoe.com/faqs/why.htm#network (which also applies to a
flash drive).
