Default Can I use Outlook Express for Outgoing ONLY?

This may seem crazy but I use Yahoo for my everyday email application. I
also have Peachtree Accounting which has the capability within Peachtree to
open Outlook or Outlook Express and send reports to my accounting clients at
a press of a button.

I'm thinking I should be able to set up ONLY the Outgoing settings within
Outlook Express for Peachtree jobs and keep my regular Yahoo mail for
everyday email. Has anyone tried this?

Are you getting unwanted mail delivered to the account using OE? You could
simply make a message rule.

This is not about unwanted mail.

I do like Yahoo Mail but to send a Peachtree report via Yahoo mail is more
difficult when you have to save a report file then attach it. This is
especially true when creating a ad hoc or partial report, not the entire
file a client needs to view. Peachtree indicates it needs a MAPI email
client to do the work.

So if I were to create a new e-mail account in OE and not enter any of the
Incoming e-mail server settings, just Outgoing, will it work or will it
complain that Incoming settings are incomplete?

I suspect Peachtree requires a Full MAPI mail client (e.g., MS Outlook); OE
is a Simple MAPI client.

OE will complain if a server setting is not entered. You might be able to
get away with a phony POP3 port setting. You would have to test it to be
sure.

Do the following

- Tools, Accounts, Mail, Properties, General, uncheck to option to
Include this account when checking mail
- Tools, Accounts, Mail, Properties, Servers. Fill in the Incoming POP3
server with some bogus information so that if you accidentally do a
Receive it will give you an error. Fill in the Outgoing server
correctly. Also on the General tab fill in the e-mail address and name
correctly as these are used when sending
- Tools, Options, Send check the Send Immediately option.

Hi IK,

Yes, it can be done. But you need for a SMTP Server to accept incoming
E-mails from you or that is outgoing E-mails from your computer to them. I
am currently doing so on this computer. I am sending only from this computer
and have the ability to send and receive on my other computer.

Use localhost for your incoming E-mail server in Properties.
And if your Outgoing SMTP Server requires Authentication then click on
Settings and enter your User Name and Password.

Also uncheck on the General Tab, "Include this account when receiving
mail or synchronizing" Click Apply and finish your other changes, clicking
Apply and then click OK.

Even if you do configure an Inbox you don't have to use it.
E.g. just uncheck all the options dealing with the Receive function
(in General tab, for example) and only use the Tools, Send, Send All
command (Alt-T,S,S)
