That's not the complete message. It should mention the server by name.
If it's mentioning www.mail.comcast.net as the server name, that's wrong. The WWW. does not belong there. Fix in OE at Tools, Accounts, Mail, Properties, Servers. If you still have problems, then see: How to troubleshoot error messages that you receive when try to send and receive e-mail in Outlook and in Outlook Express http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=813514 -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "bopper" wrote in message ... Thanks for the help. www.mail.comcast.net is not a valid mail host name at Comcast. Take out the "www." part. You might also reconsider which port to use. Comcast is moving to port 587 for POP3 mail host access and off of port 25 (to thwart the mailer trojans that infects their customers' hosts). You can also use port 465 if you enable SSL on the SMTP connect. |

Thanks a bunch. You were right about Comcast switching the smtp port to 587.
I also had to go into my OE account and set the authentication box. I don't know why, I never had this box checked before. Maybe it also had something to do with Comcast, but Comcast support didn't tell me that. I had to figure that out for myself. Thanks again. -- bopper "VanguardLH" wrote: "VanguardLH" wrote in : "bopper" wrote in : Using OUtlook Exress 6 witn XP. Kate,
You may need to change your SMTP Port setting from 25 to 587, on the Advance tab, for your Comcast mail acct(s), Outlook Express. Comcast is making these changes on a region by region basis. In OE TOOLS Email Accts Select Comcast acct Properties button Advance tab SMTP Port change to 587. Repeat for all Comcast accts. For Mozilla/Thunderbird you will need to change the SMTP setting from 25 to 587 in the program. Comcast Help pages for setting up different Mail applications with their service, look under application name, and article for using Port: 587. http://help.comcast.net/#adedf031-3e...0-6e0eac6c0a57 -- Add MS to your News Reader: news://msnews.microsoft.com Rich/rerat (RRR News) message rule Previous Text Snipped to Save Bandwidth When Appropriate "kate" wrote in message ... bopper wrote: Using OUtlook Exress 6 witn XP.
