When sending messages I get an Error box that pops up but the box contains
no information. The message does "send" but it stays in the outbox and does not go to the "Sent" folder. I have to remove the sent meswsage from the Outbox or it will re-send the next time i send a new message. What might be causing this??? |

Probably a corrupt Outbox.
Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Press the Tab key to highlight the folder location, then Ctrl+C. Close OE, then Start | Run | Ctrl+V will put the location in the box - Click OK and you'll see the OE files. Otherwise, write the location down and navigate to it in Windows Explorer. In WindowsXP, 2K & 3K, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Explorer, you must enable Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start | Control Panel | Folder Options | View. With OE closed, find the DBX file for the folder in question {Outbox.dbx} and delete it. A new one will be created automatically when you open OE. Do not archive mail in default OE folders. They will eventually become corrupt. Create your own user defined folders for storing mail and move your mail to them. Empty Deleted Items folder regularly. Keep user created folders under 100MB, and Default folders as empty as is feasible. After you are done, follow up by compacting your folders manually while working *offline* and do it often. Click on Outlook Express at the top of the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work Offline (or double click Working Online in the Status Bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed. In Tools | Options | Maintenance: Uncheck Compact messages in background and leave it unchecked. {N/A if running XP/SP2}. -- Bruce Hagen MS MVP - Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "Giganews B" wrote in message ... The Sent Items dbx file could also be corrupt.

It could be a problem with your AV scanner - disable the scan of outgoing
emails, and see if that ends the problem -- Noel Paton (MS-MVP 2002-2006, Windows) Nil Carborundum Illegitemi http://www.crashfixpc.com/millsrpch.htm http://tinyurl.com/6oztj Please read http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm on how to post messages to NG's "Giganews B" wrote in message ... First, thanks to all that have offered help. Sorry I haven't responded
earlier but I was away for the weeked. I've tried to compact the Outbox folder as suggested but get the following Error message when the 'Sent Items' starts to get compacted: The folder 'Sent Items' could not be cleaned up. There is not enough disk space. (File:Sent Items.dbx, Error;0x800013C) I've then deleted the entire contents of the "Sent Items" folder and it appears empty. However in the folder that displays the Outlook Express files, the 'Sent Items.dbx" file is listed as 2,097,097 KB in size. I've tried to delete this .dbx file but it would not delete. I still get the same error message as indicated above. I also disabled the outgoing Email AV scan, but I'm still getting the error and outgoing Email send nbut remain in the Outbox. Any further suggestions? Thanks in advance. "Giganews B" wrote in message ... When sending messages I get an Error box that pops up but the box contains no information. Did you delete the Outbox.dbx file as I have suggested, and then compact? If
you still have a problem, delete Sent Items.dbx as Ron suggested. Move any messages you wish to save first. Note that the file size will not be reduced until you compact, which you should be able to do after deleting the dbx files. -- Bruce Hagen MS MVP - Outlook Express ~IB-CA~ "Giganews B" wrote in message ... I had done everything as suggested. I had tried repeatedly to delete the
"Sent Items.dbx" file and it would not delete. However, I tried again to delete the "Sent Items.dbx" file and it did delete this time. Everything fell in place after that and Emails are nowsending and moving to the 'Sent Items" box. It appears that I should have been cleaning up my "Sent Items" on a regular basis.
